International Desk: The two-day long G-20 conference has started in Bali, Indonesia. US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other heads of state and governments are staying in Bali to attend the conference of the alliance of 20 major economies in the world.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo opened the G-20 summit on Tuesday (November 14). In his opening remarks, he also called on the world to end the war and resolve differences amid Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend this conference. He was replaced by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In addition, the president of Ukraine, although not a member of the G20 alliance, was invited by the host Indonesia to attend the conference.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a speech via video conference.
He called for an end to Russia’s “devastating war”, saying the war should end justly and in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. Called on the world leadership to restore peace.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the start of the conference, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a three-hour bilateral meeting on Monday. In the meeting, they emphasized on cooperation between the two superpowers.
