Dhaka Bureau: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s suspension of sentence by executive order does not prevent her from doing politics, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud. He stated that Khaleda cannot conduct politics under the terms of the sentence suspension.
Awami League joint general secretary Hasan Mahmud said this in response to journalists’ questions at the unveiling ceremony of five books at the secretariat on Thursday (February 23).
Minister of Agriculture Abdur Razzak and Law Minister Anisul Haque said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia can do politics. When attention was drawn to this statement, the information minister said that, according to the law of Bangladesh, if someone is punished for more than two years, he cannot vote. Khaleda Zia was sentenced to over two years. There is no question of choosing him.
He said that she (Khaleda Zia) was allowed to stay at home conditionally, considering her health. Given his physical condition and age, he was allowed to stay in a house outside the prison on a conditional basis. According to that condition, he cannot do politics. There is no condition on whether he can do politics. According to the condition, he will receive treatment at home. It is said that he will not participate in any other activities. So it is not possible for him to do politics.
