Dhaka Bureau: The 22nd National Conference of Awami League, the country’s largest political party, has started. The conference started on Saturday (December 24) at Suhrawardy Udyan on a platform built on the model of Awami League’s election symbol boat and Padma Bridge.
President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoisted the national flag through the national anthem at 10:30 am at the beginning of the formalities of the conference. At this time, the general treasurer Obaidul Quader hoisted the party flag and the leaders of 78 organizational districts hoisted the district flag.
Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the conference by flying balloons and pigeons. Party music was performed at this time. Then the first session of the conference began. The first session will end with the speech of party president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after presenting the condolence proposal, welcome address, general secretary’s report.
Bangabandhu’s younger daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son and her information, communication and technology advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul are present in the conference.
Meanwhile, senior Awami League leader and advisory council member Advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun will serve as Chief Election Commissioner in the three-member Election Commission at the 22nd Conference of Awami League. The other two members of the commission are Moshiur Rahman and Sahabuddin Chuppu.
However, although the president of the party, Sheikh Hasina, is confirmed, there are many questions in the public mind about who will be the general secretary. Awami League’s current General Secretary Obaidul Quader, presidium member Dr. Abdur Razzak, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman and AFM Bahauddin Nashim. However, the party president Sheikh Hasina’s decision regarding this important position of the party is final.
