Dhaka Bureau: Amir of Jamaat Islam in the new militant organization “Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya”. Police found evidence of Shafiqur Rahman’s support and funding. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq said this in response to questions from journalists after a program organized at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital on Saturday (December 17) afternoon.
Ghulam Farooq said, “The defeated forces of 71 have tried to spread militancy in different formats at different times. They have tried to steal the freedom of the country. We have seen that militancy was attempted in this country in 2012-13, 2015-16 and 2005-6.’
He said, “The son of the current Jamaat-e-Islami emir got involved in militancy. He joined Jamaatul Ansar Phil Hindal Sharqiya. But the Amir of Baba Jamaat knowingly supported and financed him. With his money, the boy was organizing others. We arrested him because of this financing. It was with his support that his son Doctor Rafat joined the new militant organization. “With his direct support, several people have also received training in the organization,” said the DMP Commissioner.
In response to another question, he said, “With the direct support of Jamaat’s emir, several people have taken training in new militant organizations.” We have seen in the past that the people of this country did not support militancy, nor will they support militancy in the future. In the past too, we have suppressed and controlled militancy with a firm hand. In the month of victory, I want to say that in the future, militancy will be controlled with a strict hand by taking the people of this country with us. In this country, militancy cannot be raised in any way.
When asked if any other leader of Jamaat was found to be involved, he said, “We have received several other information, our operation is going on.” But for the sake of privacy, I am not disclosing that information now. I will give details about this after the campaign is successful.
When asked about the report of the investigation committee formed regarding the escape of two militants from the court, he said, “We are receiving the report of that investigation committee.” The policemen who were on duty at the time of the incident were negligent. The report will tell about actions to be taken against them and to prevent such incidents from happening in the future, including the police.’
When asked about the progress of the arrest of the two fugitive militants, the DMP Commissioner said, “Not only those two, but many of those who are involved in the robbery of the militants have been identified in our surveillance.” I hope we can arrest them soon.
