City Reporter: A clash has occurred between two sides of the local student body over the control of the playground (turf) of Chandgaon Sports Zone of Chittagong City Corporation under the Chandgaon police station of the city. A young man named Zubair Uddin Babu (25) was killed by the stabbing of his opponent. Doctors declared him dead when he was brought to Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) hospital last Friday evening. Before this, the clash took place in front of the office of ward councilor number 4 around 5 pm.
Confirming the matter, sub-inspector of Chandgaon police station Suman Barua said there is a playground (turf court) next to the councilor’s office in the old Chandgaon police station area. Disagreement arose between the two sides of the Chhatra Dal regarding its possession. At that time, two people were injured in the attack of the opponent. Among them, a young man named Zubair Uddin Babu, who was seriously injured, was taken to Chamek Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. The incident is under investigation. It is known that a football match was organized there on the occasion of the inauguration of the turf. Where students of Sanwara Boys High School and Baklia Government High School participated. The match was scheduled to start at 5 pm, but the match started late in the evening due to the lateness of the chief guest’s speech. After about half an hour of play, the students found that there was a lot of trouble at the main gate of the turf. Turf people inside also tried to resist by going to the main gate. Students were evacuated from the field in the hot conditions.
According to local sources, a dispute has arisen between the Chhota Musharraf and Chhota Amin factions of the local Chhatra Dal over the possession of turf. As a result of this, there was a clash on Friday afternoon. Musharraf told the media that Naushad, the former leader of the local Chhatra Dal, demanded a donation from me. When they refused to pay the subscription, they attacked with hundreds of people. Our party worker Babu was killed. I will take legal recourse in this matter. I want maximum punishment for criminals.
It is known that on June 15, the then city mayor M. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the turf built with the financing of Chittagong City Corporation. Built at a cost of about 2 crore rupees on an area of 35.22 khata, this modern sports complex has a turf for small-scale football, badminton court, and a wide walkway for general movement. There are dressing rooms and wash blocks for the players. There is a child zone for children’s sports. An aesthetic open space is being created to pass the time on an autumn afternoon.
