Dhaka Bureau: The 30th conference of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League’s student body, has been postponed. A new date will be fixed later. This conference was supposed to be held on December 3.
Earlier on May 7, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the affiliated organizations to hold a conference in the meeting of the executive parliament, the highest policy-making forum of the Awami League. In continuation of this, General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader directed the fraternal organization Chhatra League and two subsidiary organizations Mahila Awami League and Jubo Mahila League to hold a conference of the central executive parliament in the meeting of the editorial board on May 10.
Incidentally, the last 29th National Conference of BCL was held in May 2018. In July of that year, Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shobhan and Golam Rabbani became the president and general secretary of the organization. Later Al Nahian Khan Joy and writer Bhattacharya were given the responsibility of Acting President and General Secretary. On January 4, 2020, on the foundation anniversary of the Chhatra League, Joy and the author were ‘exonerated’. Since then, Jai-Lekh has been serving as the president and general secretary of the Chhatra League.
