Dhaka Bureau: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was arrested from his home in Gulshan by law enforcement officers. He was arrested on Sunday (October 29) morning.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan said that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was picked up by the police.
On the day of the morning-evening hartal, law and order forces surrounded the Gulshan residence of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Before this, there was a general meeting of the BNP in Nayapaltan, the capital, on Saturday. Police clashed with BNP leaders and workers at noon in Kakrail before the start of the mass rally. The clash later spread to the Vijayanagar water tank and the Shantinagar area.
A member of the police and a ward-level leader of Juba Dal were killed in a bloody clash centered around the mass rally. 41 police officers and 25 members of the Ansar were injured in the clash. At least 20 journalists were injured.
Several vehicles, including ambulances, fire service vehicles, buses, and motorcycles, were set on fire during the clash. According to the police, a total of 55 vehicles were set on fire. The attack took place at the Chief Justice’s residence in Kakrail and the Central Police Hospital in Rajarbagh.
Besides, seven police boxes in Kakrail, Fakirapool, Nightingale Mor, and Shantinagar areas were burned. According to police sources, a police vehicle was set on fire in Kamalapur.
