According to Sber Bank, Russian businessmen are eyeing the Asian region to expand their businesses. As a result, Sber Bank is exploring the possibility of providing banking services to Russian customers who have commercial relations with various companies in Bangladesh.
Referring to the news published by Bangladeshi media last Wednesday, the Reuters report said that representatives of the Russian bank have already visited Dhaka regarding the establishment of a branch in Bangladesh. They have officially discussed this with the officials of the Bangladesh Central Bank. In total, two rounds of meetings have been held.
Anatoli Popov, the deputy chairman of the bank’s executive board, said that Sber Bank is exploring the possibilities of providing banking services at the request of Russian customers who are doing business with Bangladeshi companies. Western countries have imposed various sanctions on Russia due to the attack in Ukraine. SBER Bank closed its business in the European market last month.
Like many Russian companies, Sberbank has looked to Asia for business expansion to survive despite Western sanctions.
