Lohagara Correspondent: 5 wild animals were rescued from a passenger bus at Lohagara Battali Motor Station, the busiest commercial center of Lohagara Upazila Sadar. At this time, two traffickers were arrested. On October 27, around 9:30 pm, the 5 wild animals were rescued based on secret information. The wildlife includes a leopard cat, 3 mecho cats and a raccoon. These wild animals were caught by two smugglers from Ali Kadam upazila of hilly Bandarban while smuggling them for sale.
A police team led by Lohagara police station officer-in-charge Atiqur Rahman. Later, the two traffickers along with the wildlife were produced before the Upazila mobile court. The traveling court sentenced the smugglers to 6 months imprisonment without labor and a fine of 5 thousand rupees. The convicted traffickers are Alim Uddin (35) son of Samshul Alam of Battali Para of Alikadam Upazila of Hill Bandarban and Babul Mia son of Fatehabad village of Comilla Devidwar Upazila. Emran (26). Trafficking gangs admit to transporting wild animals in iron cages. As a result, the Wildlife Act mandates imprisonment and fines for them. According to the concerned sources, the convicts were handed over to the Lohagara police station to send them to jail. The wildlife was handed over to Chunati Sanctuary Range Officer for dispatch to Dulahazara Safari Park in Cox’s Bazar.
