Tangail Representative: Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City Railway Station is located next to the Dhaka-Tangail highway. The original design of the station is modeled after the Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka. It consists of a platform and a loop. It is one of the most beautiful railway stations in the country in terms of aesthetics and modernity. The cost of construction of this B-class station of Bangladesh Railway is more than fifty crore rupees. The monthly maintenance cost is 5 lakh taka, but the income is only a few thousand taka. Although there is a huge passenger demand, only two trains stop throughout the day. Although it was inaugurated six years ago, this modern railway station is being destroyed due to a lack of manpower. The railways said that the station is not serviceable due to technical difficulties.
According to the information received, the journey of this station started in 2018 with the purpose of transporting 10 to 20 thousand passengers from the Gazipur-Savar industrial area and North Bengal every day. But this luxury station is lying in silence. Modern ticket counter, signal system, and high-quality restrooms. Despite everything, there is no manpower. There are nine staff on paper, but seven are working. No pointsman, no security personnel. None of them stay after 9 a.m. without the station manager.
40 trains (20 pairs) run through this route. But only two local trains stop at this huge station: one is Tangail Commuter, and the other is Sirajganj Express. And the number of tickets allocated for two trains is 60. Although the monthly cost of this luxury station is at least 5 lakhs, the railway workers say that the income from here is only a few thousand.
The VIP restroom has been closed due to a lack of service. Due to the lack of maintenance, various valuable structures, including advanced glass walls and colorful roofs, are being destroyed. Locals say that despite the huge passenger demand, the station has turned into an entertainment center due to a lack of trains. Hundreds of people gather here every Friday. And there is traffic on TikTok every day.
Railway authorities say that it is not possible to provide full service from the station due to technical difficulties. Train movement will be disrupted if passenger service is not provided.
Director General of Railways Sardar Shahadat Ali said that stopping intercity trains means increasing stops. We’re trying to get out of here. Otherwise, the train takes too much time, causing problems in operation.

He said that after evening, there is a ghostly atmosphere at the station. Since there was no security guard, he locked the gate and stayed inside after evening. And on this occasion, the theft of various manhole covers and other goods is happening. Due to a lack of manpower, various facilities at the station are being destroyed. However, the matter has been reported to the authorities.
It should be noted that the construction of the main building cost half a hundred million taka, but the cost of the project is around one hundred crore taka, including the various infrastructures. The construction of this beautiful station started in 2016 and ended in 2018. And on November 1, 2018, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the station.
