Dhaka Bureau: BNP told the European Union (EU) delegation that it will not participate in the elections under the current ruling Awami League government. The BNP informed the matter in a meeting with the EU delegation at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Saturday (July 15).

The meeting led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was also attended by Chairman’s Advisory Council Member Ismail Zabiullah, Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid and Human Rights Secretary and Foreign Advocate Asaduzzaman.

After the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury told reporters that the question is why the whole world is paying attention to the Bangladesh election. Why does the European Union delegation have to come here and give their opinion on the election? They do not have to go to any other South Asian country. Why come to Bangladesh? This is the question on everyone’s mind. They may have the same question why they have to come here. Naturally, the election under the current government is questionable and unacceptable.

Stating that the whole world has paid attention to the Bangladesh election today, Amir Khosru said that they are expressing their opinion. They want to know whether the election will be held by public vote in the coming days. And what we have always been saying, the people of the country and the world are saying, there is no question of going to the elections under this illegal government.

The election day is far away, now the election vote theft is going on, he said, now posting of DCs, police is going on. BNP leaders are being arrested, attacks are going on in different places. The cases of BNP leaders and activists are being speedily sentenced. So that they cannot participate in the elections. In other words, vote theft is happening every day in Bangladesh. In the future they will control and steal votes. Naturally these issues came up for discussion. We have said that the people of the country will not be able to exercise their vote under this illegal government. They cannot elect representatives. Their government cannot be elected. Everyone knows the issues, but since the issues are being discussed in the current context, it has to be said again and again.
