Dhaka Bureau: An Awami League leader named Shafiqul Islam Panu was hacked to death in Barguna on the night of May 2 due to the previous enmity over the Union Parishad elections. Ayala Flag of Panu Barguna Sadar Upazila is the Joint General Secretary of the Union Awami League and a former UP member. The arrow of accusations is directed at opposition party member Motahar Mridha. His terrorist forces, led by Mridha, had earlier attacked Pannu. Jamal Hossain, Joint Convener of the Upazila Jubo League, was shot dead by three burqa-clad men at Gauripur Paschim Bazar in Daudkandi Upazila of Comilla on the night of April 30.
According to the family of the deceased Jamal Hossain, accused No. 4 of the murder case is former vice chairman of Titas Upazila Parishad and organizing secretary of Upazila Awami League Shahinul Islam, alias Sohel Shikder. At the end of last year, the Awami League held conferences in 39 districts and a large number of upazilas. At the beginning of this year, the center ordered united preparations for the elections, but the ruling party has become a challenge to solving the Trinamool conflict. The party is plagued by internal conflict. There are also incidents of murder due to conflicts within their own party.
In this case, the rulers have taken it as a big challenge to solve the conflict at the grassroots. The Awami League has taken the initiative to restore order to the grassroots around the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections. The top leaders of the party said that before the national elections, the utmost importance is being given to bringing order to the grassroots of the party and making the organization more coherent. Organizational action is being taken against the accused by listing them. On the instructions of the party chief, the responsible leaders called the Trinamool leaders to Dhaka and held a series of meetings with the aim of resolving the internal conflict and reducing the distance between the leaders and activists. Besides, it has been ordered to strengthen the organization and highlight the development and success of the government, including mega projects, as a process of preparing the ground for the elections.
However, the conflict does not stop. Conflict is also evident around the upcoming city corporation elections. Analysts see the internal conflict as the main reason behind the loss of boatman Azmat Ullah in the Gazipur city election last Thursday. Although there is not much conflict in Khulna and Sylhet, due to the conflict in Barisal and Rajshahi, the activists are not coming to the field unitedly on behalf of the party candidate.
Zayeda Khatun, the mother of former mayor and expelled Awami League leader Jahangir Alam, won an incredible victory with the symbol of the table clock in Gazipur, which is plagued by internal strife. The Awami League’s heavyweight candidate, Azmat, has lost. Besides, there are internal conflicts in Barisal and Rajshahi. Many are openly opposing the boat. Again, the rebels are also in a strong position. A ring has formed around Sadiq Abdullah in Barisal as he served as mayor in the Barisal City Corporation elections. It is strange to make that circle work for the Awami League-nominated candidate. Rajshahi is not without conflict.
Metropolitan Awami League general secretary W. Sarkar and his followers are being given work in the municipal election. Because of these reasons, the Central Committee of the Awami League is working to resolve the party conflict. Organizational action is being taken against the accused by listing them. Awami League presidium member Abdur Rahman said the Awami League is a traditional party. Some conflict will be normal. We are working to solve it.
Organizing secretary Ahmad Hossain said that work is being done to restore order at the grassroots level. It has been ordered to work unitedly, to compete transparently, and to work for the party candidate.
