Dhaka Bureau: Hard decisions such as show cause notice, expulsion, not getting party posts and nominations in the future, changing the party constitution, and expulsion from the party without any notice are not working. The ruling Awami League is unable to rein in the rebel candidates. The Awami League amended its constitution in 2016 to prevent rebel candidates from being elected and included a provision for the direct expulsion of leaders elected against the party’s symbol. However, the party could not suppress the rebel candidate. In the rest of my life, I will not do anything against the discipline of the Awami League; some are rebelling against the boat despite asking for such an apology from the center in a written letter.
The Awami League, angry with the action of sinking the boat of the apologizing rebel candidate in the upcoming city corporation elections, is deciding to expel the rebels permanently. Along with that, they will not be given the party symbol in any future election. Even in any branch committee of the party, the enemies of the house will not find a place. This is not an empty bully, so the policymakers of the party have been warned to provide proof.
The rulers had to struggle to prevent the rebels from winning the local government elections. If the aspirants fail to get a party ticket, they challenge the party’s decision and elect independent candidates. The Awami League also took measures against the rebels to make the election more crowded. As a result, the main rival of the Awami League candidate is the rebel candidate of the party. City elections are no exception.
The Awami League is in some trouble with its party’s rebel candidates and internal conflicts in the city elections of Barisal and Gazipur, although it is somewhat secure in the city elections of Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet. The party has given a conditional pardon to those who have voted against the party’s candidate in the past or have been expelled for working on behalf of the candidate, and at the same time warned that any future anti-organizational activities will be unforgivable.
The party has issued a stern warning that the rebels will not be given a ‘concession’ this time. If someone participates in the election as a rebel or an independent candidate, going beyond the decision of the party, if the leaders and workers take a stand in favor of the rebel candidate due to internal conflicts in the party, then the party will take strict action against them. The policymakers of the Awami League said that they would be expelled from the party for life and that strict organizational measures would be taken. The Awami League is going to take action again against Jahangir Alam for submitting nomination papers against the party’s decision in the Gazipur City Corporation election. A decision will be taken only when Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina returns to the country, said Mirza Azam, Dhaka Divisional Organizing Secretary of the party.
He said that even after Jahangir Alam broke party discipline, Sheikh Hasina pardoned him once. He mentioned in the application asking for forgiveness that he would not do anything against the discipline of the Awami League for the rest of his life. In violation of that, he became a rebel candidate for the party. Jahangir Alam must be punished for breaking party discipline again.
Before this, the main rival of the boat in the Zilla Parishad and Union Parishad elections was the rebel candidate of the boat. The rebel candidate of the Awami League defeated the boat candidate in 1 thousand 694 unions in the seven rounds of elections in about 4500 Union Parishads. The election, which ended last January, saw widespread violence across the country. Most of which have been between boat symbol candidates and rebel candidates. The Awami League considered and pardoned those who won the previous Union Parishad, Municipal, and Upazila Parishad elections by standing against the party candidate and later appealed to the party chief for forgiveness. However, the High Command gave strict instructions not to give responsibility to any party position. The policymakers said that not to nominate domestic enemies Vibhishan in any election, as well as party MPs who supported rebel candidates in local government elections, worked against party candidates, and played a role in defeating the boat candidate, should be taught. After Awami League chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returns to the country, more strict decisions will be taken in this regard, they said.
When asked, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, the organizing secretary of the party, told the media that if someone goes against the party’s decision and elects a rebel candidate, then the party will take strict organizational measures against him. They will not be placed on any committee of the party. They were pardoned ahead of the National Assembly elections. But many of them did not correct themselves. So this time, permanent expulsion will be done. Any offense, like a violation of party discipline before the election, will not be tolerated. The rebels will not be allowed to rig the election. Rebels will not be nominated in any future elections.
