Natore representative: Illegal extraction of filled sand from Padma river in Lalpur upazila of Natore is going on freely. That filled sand is moving to different areas of the upazila through tractors in front of Lalpur thana gate. Lalpur upazila administration is playing a silent role in this.
On Wednesday (May 03) at around 11:30 pm, it was seen that filling sand was freely lifted from Padma river ghat under Lalpur Union Parishad No. 1 of Lalpur Upazila and under Lalpur Priti Cinema and was moving to different areas in front of the police station gate by means of tractors. with
A person who did not wish to reveal his name told The Crime that the people complained several times to the UNO office along with the police officers to stop the filling-sand extraction of the Padma river, but it was not stopped in any way.
He also said that the lifting work started at 12/1 in the night and continued till 6/7 in the morning. At that time it is not possible to inform the police station over the phone because it is time to sleep, I am afraid if the OC will threaten me. However, there are two CCTVs near the police station gate, through which the OC can take legal action if he wants, but I don’t see any action.
In this regard, another witness told The Crime that, not only sand is being extracted, ponds are also being dug illegally in various areas including Duriya, Naopara, Mohrakaya, Boaliapara Bill of the sub-district, which the administration pretends not to see.
Lalpur police station OC Ujjwal told The Crime that no one has made any complaint regarding the illegal extraction of sand from the Padma river and illegal digging of the pond, if a complaint is made, necessary action will be taken.
Shamima Sultana, Executive Officer of Lalpur Upazila, called several times on her cell phone, but she did not receive the call.
