Dhaka Bureau: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the markets are unprotected due to extortion by the Awami League. But the government people set fire to Bangabazar; the traders said so. The government is fully responsible for the fire.
He said that the government itself is setting fire to divert people’s attention from the demand for reducing the prices of daily necessities, including fertilizers, and elections under a neutral government; on the contrary, they are trying to put the blame on BNP.
He said these things at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Monday afternoon. The Nationalist Farmers Party organized the rally to protest against the abnormal increase in the price of fertilizers.
Mirza Fakhrul said there is still time to reduce the price of fertilizer and increase the price of rice. Otherwise, people will take action against you.
He said that by increasing the price of fertilizers, the farmers have been neglected. Even though agriculture is subsidized all over the world, our fertilizer prices have been increased to meet IMF conditions. Increase in fertilizer prices to strangle farmers.
The Secretary General of the BNP said that the government is looking after the interests of the beneficiaries without thinking about those who produce.
He said, Where is the development? The common people are not able to eat. The government has established a reign of loot in the country.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the Awami League government is anti-people. No more will be tolerated. The government has to move. As long as the government is in power, the country will suffer.
We have joined forces to protect Bangladesh. This movement is not for the BNP to come to power but to return people’s right to vote.
He said that the movement cannot be suppressed with any arrest case. Victory will be achieved by the people. Elections should be held after meeting the demands of the caretaker government.
General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul and others also addressed the protest rally under the chairmanship of Hasan Jafir Tuhin, Central President of Krishak Dal.
