Arms dealer with domestic guns arrested in RAB operation in Chakaria

Chakaria Office: A team of RAB-15 arrested two arms dealers in Chakaria of Cox’s Bazar. Meanwhile, two locally made guns (LG), one CNG, mobile and cash were recovered from them. They were arrested along with weapons from Ilishia Lalbridge area of Paschim Bara Veola Union of Chakaria Upazila at noon on Saturday (February 11).

The arrested are Md. Sarwar Kamal (42), son of Jaber Ahmad of Ward No. 7 of Howanak Union of Maheshkhali Upazila, Cox’s Bazar and Abdul Quader (45), son of Maulabhi Abdur Rahim of Ward No. 9 of Chiringa Union of Chakaria Upazila.

RAB-15′ Cox’s Bazar Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Abu Salam Chowdhury confirmed the truth of the operation.

He said that news came from Matarbari of Maheshkhali upazila that some drug dealers are coming towards Chakaria with drugs in CNG. On receiving this information, an expeditionary team of RAB-15 set up a check post in Ilishia Lalbridge area of Maheshkhali-Chakaria road. Sensing the presence of RAB, the CNG driver tried to run away and RAB caught him and arrested him. After searching the CNG, Sarwar Kamal was arrested along with two country-made guns (LG), cash and three mobile phones.

During the initial interrogation, these weapons were handed over to two persons of Chakriya. Later, we arrested Abdul Quader from the fire service area of Chakaria town along with Sarwar Kamal along with CNG.

Meanwhile, Md. Belal Hossain (48) and Md. Nurul Islam (32) ran away.

He said, in the initial interrogation, they also admitted that they have been involved in this arms trade for a long time.

The arrested have been handed over to Chakaria police station. A police report has been filed against them under the relevant law.

Chakaria police station operations officer SI Rajib Sarkar said that a team of RAB-15 handed over two LGs, one CNG, cash and mobile phones to the police station. The statement given by RAB has been registered as a case.
