Dhaka Bureau: Mahir Sarwar Megh’s childhood could have been different. Perhaps it was father, mother’s love, who used to murder. But no, Megh’s fate did not happen. 11 years ago today, Mashranga Television news editor Golam Mostafa Sarwar alias Sagar Sarwar and ATN Bangla’s senior reporter Mehrun Nahar Runa alias Mehrun Rooney were brutally murdered by miscreants at their residence in West Rajabazar of the capital. Their only son, Megh, was only five years old.
Megh is now 16 years old. He was raised by his grandmother and uncle. But Megh’s grandmother, Nurun Nahar Mirza, died on January 5 of last year. Megh is very much alone now. Even though he grew up with his uncle’s love, he sits with pictures of his parents when he is upset or when he remembers them. You can see them in the picture.
On February 11, 2012, Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney were brutally murdered at their residence in West Rajabazar, the capital. RAB is investigating the case filed in this incident. So far, 95 attempts have been made to submit an inquiry report. But the investigation is not over. On January 4, the case was scheduled for submission of an investigation report. But the investigating agency for the case did not submit the RAB report. For this reason, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam fixed March 5 as the next date for submitting the court report.
When asked about the case, Rooney’s younger brother Nowsher Alam Roman said, “What else do we have to say, except to seek justice?” There is no progress in the case; everything is going on as before. And there is not much communication with the investigating officers of the case. In any case, I want justice; I don’t want anything else.
He said, “Megh still talks about her mother.” We visit the grave once every week. The cloud is now much bigger. Sometimes I see him sitting with the pictures of his parents. He sees them.
Sagar’s mother, Saleha Monir, said, “Then Home Minister Sahara Khatun came to the scene and said to arrest the killers within 48 hours.” But the result of those 48 hours is zero, even after 11 years. The investigating officer in the case could not submit the charge sheet for 11 years. In one case after another, the investigating officer comes and goes, but the charge sheet is not filed. Before the coronavirus, a RAB official contacted, but no one else has contacted in the last 2-3 years.
Drawing the Prime Minister’s attention, he further said, “I want justice for the murder of my son.” If the prime minister so desires, anything is possible.Everything will happen if he says
Reminiscing about his son Sagar, he said, “Mother’s mind always thinks that my son Sagar will pass away tomorrow.” I could not imagine that my son would die like this. Again, this government could not have imagined that the case would be so late. RAB knows everything. The report has to be submitted. Simply put, I want to see my son’s killer. I don’t know if they will be punished. But I want to see the killers; why did they kill my son? What did they kill for? What else can a mother desire? It has been 12 years since the murder. How many murders are being tried? How many clueless cases are being tried? The case is between the ages of 30 and 35.But I don’t understand why this is happening during Sagar-Runi.
Saleha Monir said, “I will not get my son back, so there is no other option but to seek justice.” I have only one thing: I want justice for the murder of my son. Even before my death, I want to see the trial of my son’s killers. I have not visited my son’s grave until now. I have promised that the day I see my son’s killers, I will be able to see the trial, and I will visit the grave on that day. If I die before that, so be it. Even then, I will not go without seeing the murderers.
