Dhaka Bureau: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col. (Retd) Ali Ahmad Bir Bikram has claimed that Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam’s statement regarding BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman is false, misleading, fabricated and baseless.
Colonel Oli said that Major Rafiq is trying to mislead the nation with such statements at a mature age. Before 1980 he wrote a book on Liberation War. Why is this information not in the book? Why did Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman fire him? In 1977-78, after his dismissal, he lived almost destitute. He did not have the money to come to Dhaka. At that time, I brought him to Dhaka by buying a plane ticket through Chittagong Commissioner Awal. Then requested Ziaur Rahman to make him the chairman of Dhaka WASA. Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam is that kind of person, who cuts holes in the plate he eats for self-interest.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at a protest rally in front of the LDP office adjacent to the FDC on Wednesday afternoon.
He said, on the night of March 25, 1971, we rebelled against Pakistan under the leadership of then Major Ziaur Rahman. Rafiqul Islam was not found in Chittagong then. Later I came to know that he escaped from Chittagong and stayed on the second floor of Ramgarh post office in Khagrachari border. We fought in Chittagong city. Why did he flee to Ramgarh?
He also said that the kind of game being played in a Muslim majority country with textbooks is not desirable at all. The nation will not forgive those who play to destroy the new generation. It’s no use just investigating. These sinners should be hanged.
The LDP president said that the country’s economy has collapsed due to the arbitrariness of the government. One of the reasons for this is that about 7 lakh thousand crores of rupees have been smuggled abroad from Bangladesh. Awami League leaders are fleeing the country with money.
This veteran politician said that the line for loan disbursal is getting longer. Many companies are not paying VAT. Everyone must unite against the Awami League government to save the country from this situation.
Presidium member of LDP also spoke at the meeting. Neyamul Bashir, Dr. Aurangzeb Belal, Advocate SM Morshed, Advisor Principal Mahbubur Rahman, Vice Principal Karima Khatun, Joint Secretary General Billal Hossain Miyaji, Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Abul Hashem, Publicity Secretary Advocate Nilu, Dhaka Metropolitan West LDP President Bir Muktijoddha Shahadat Hossain Manik, North LDP General Secretary Ukar Hossain Roni, Dhaka Metropolitan East President Solaiman, Democratic Youth Party President Aman Sobhan, Democratic Labor Party President Mamun, Democratic Volunteers Party President Khalid Bin Jasim, Democratic Lawyers Forum President Advocate Noore Alam, Democratic Student Party President Mehdi Hasan Mahbub and Democratic Cultural Party Joint Convenor Masud.
Meanwhile, the LDP has announced to hold a rally on February 4 at the division headquarters of the country to demand the release of the arrested leaders and workers of the opposition party and to reduce the prices of electricity, gas and daily necessities, against Awami terrorism, government suppression, oppression, torture and 10-point demands.
