Dhaka Bureau: The Dhaka Intelligence Unit of the Narcotics Control Directorate has seized a large shipment of crystal meth or dangerous drug ice from the capital. At this time, the main business of Teknaf Kendrik Ice. Jahangir Alam and two others were arrested.
Al Amin, Additional Director of the Directorate, gave this information at a press conference held at the southern office of the Gendaria Narcotics Control Directorate at noon on Wednesday (January 25).
He said that on Tuesday (January 24) afternoon, under the leadership of Assistant Director (Detective) Muhammad Rifat Hossain, the suspect Jahangir and his assistant were raided in front of Alkarim Hospital in North Sayedabad Haji Borhan Uddin Tower of Jatrabari Police Station. Mehdi Hasan was arrested. Later, their bodies were searched and one kilogram of 700 grams of ice, a banned and dangerous drug, was seized. The arrested Jahangir brought ice to the capital through the Teknaf syndicate. He is also the mastermind of the ice smuggler. He is also a bus driver for Saint Martin Transport. Basically he brought these drugs to Dhaka via Cox’s Bazar Teknaf under the guise of driving a bus. Jahangir has been involved in Yaba since 2015 and ice smuggling since 2020. Earlier, Yaba-ice used to deliver from Teknaf border to Dhaka. Later, he himself brought Yaba ice from Teknaf to Dhaka and formed an organized circle to sell it. As the market value of ice from Yaba is high, Jahangir formed a separate syndicate for smuggling and selling ice. Later he used to deliver drugs directly to drug users through his accomplice Mehdi Hasan who was arrested. Earlier, Jahangir was arrested 4 times by the law and order forces for his involvement in the sale of drugs. The market value of recovered ice ranges from Tk 50 to Tk 60 lakh per kg. Of which five to six thousand taka per gram.
Asked by reporters, the additional director said that ice is basically a high-priced drug. Because of this, it is consumed more by buyers from elite areas. Ice is mostly used inside Dhaka. It has not yet spread to villages or Mofswal. However, so that such drugs cannot be smuggled or sold by drug dealers across the country, the intelligence activities of the Narcotics Control Department are continuing and such a large amount of ice was recovered first. A case is being filed against the arrested.
