Dhaka Bureau: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and member of the party’s Standing Committee Mirza Abbas were released on bail after serving a long month in Keraniganj Central Jail.

BNP media wing member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the news that these two leaders were released on bail shortly before 6 pm on Monday (January 9).

Shayrul Kabir said that the two senior BNP leaders came out of the prison a little before six in the evening. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas have left for the central office of BNP in Naya Paltan.

Meanwhile, the presence of thousands of activists has been observed in front of the Nayapaltan BNP central office in the capital since the afternoon to meet the two leaders who were recently released from prison after a month of imprisonment. Additional police have been deployed in Paltan, Kakrail Mor and surrounding areas to avoid any untoward situation.

Incidentally, on December 7 last year, BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan. One BNP supporter was killed and half a hundred people including the police were injured. After the clash, the police raided the BNP office at night. The next day, the police registered four separate cases in Paltan, Motijheel, Ramna and Shahjahanpur police stations. 2 thousand 975 activists were accused in this. Names of 725 people have been mentioned among them. Although the names of Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas were not there.

On the late night of December 8, Fakhrul and Abbas were picked up from their homes and taken to the DB office first. The next day, they were arrested in Paltan police station case and sent to jail through the court.

On January 3, the High Court granted bail to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Mirza Abbas for 6 months. At the same time, the court also issued a ruling asking why permanent bail will not be granted.

The next day (January 4), the state applied to the Appellate Division to block the bail of these two BNP leaders. The chamber court fixed Sunday (January 8) for the hearing of that application. On this day, their bail was upheld in the full bench hearing of the Appellate Division.
