Dhaka Bureau: Although there is no BNP, Sultan Mohammad Mansoor, who was elected as Member of Parliament in Moulvibazar-2 constituency, is staying in the current 11th National Parliament with the party’s election symbol ‘Dhaner Sheesh’. who was once the VP of Daksur and central organizing secretary of Awami League. At the same time, Mokabbir Khan, who was elected as Member of Parliament from Sylhet-2 Constituency with the support of ‘National Unity Front’ formed under the leadership of BNP during the 11th Parliament Elections (now defunct), is also sitting in the Parliament.

Both Sultan Mansoor and Mokabbir in the election of December 30, 2018. Kamal Hossain was elected MP as the nominee of the People’s Forum and with the support of Jatiya Oikya Front. However, Mokabbir Khan was elected with the ‘Rising Sun’ election symbol of the Ganaforum.

BNP participated in the elections of December 30, 2018 and won only six seats. And Oikya Front got a total of eight seats in two public forums (Sultan Mansoor and Mokabbir). BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front rejected the results of the election citing various irregularities. At that time, it was first said by BNP and Oikya Front that the eight elected people will not take oath. There are many dramas with it. Sultan Mansoor was sworn in as an MP on March 7, 2019, ignoring party decisions, and Mokabbir Khan was sworn in on April 2 of the same year. Sultan Mansoor was expelled from public forum for taking oath.

There was a drama about not taking the oath in BNP as well. Zahidur Rahman (Thakurgaon-3) elected from the party ignored the party decision and took oath earlier. However, after the decision of the party, except BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the other four also took oath as MPs. As Mirza Fakhrul did not take oath, his seat (Bogra-6) fell vacant and GM Siraj of BNP won the by-election there. Six members of BNP, including barrister Rumin Farhana of the reserved seat, resigned as members of parliament on Sunday. Harunur Rashid, another BNP MP elected from R (Chapainawabganj-3) constituency, is currently abroad, he has sent his resignation letter to the Speaker by e-mail. Haroon’s resignation letter was not accepted due to the signature being scanned. It is known that he will give a new resignation letter after returning home next week. If Harun resigns, there will be no MP from BNP in the current parliament.

After the formation of Jatiya Oikya Front, Sultan Mansoor was also a member of the alliance’s top policy-making forum steering committee. Before the elections, he accepted the primary membership of the Gano Forum and got the support of Oikya Front as the party’s nominated candidate and elected on the BNP’s ‘grain of rice’ symbol. Although Sultan Mansoor said at that time, he did not join any other party after leaving Awami League. But his initial membership application was provided to the media by the public forum. On the other hand, Mokabbir got the support of the front when the candidacy of BNP nominated candidate in Sylhet-2 seat was canceled at the last minute, although Oikya Front did not get the nomination initially.
