The Crime Desk: The court has banned former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his wife Rukmila Zaman from leaving the country. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain gave this order in view of the application of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (October 7). ACC Court Inspector Amir Hossain informed this information.
Earlier, ACC Deputy Director Ram Prasad Mandal appealed to the court, seeking a ban on their departure. ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam conducted the hearing. After the hearing, the court gave this order.
According to the application, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury has been accused of acquiring illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption, including smuggling thousands of crores of rupees in the UK. According to the information received initially, the accused, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, has acquired 350 properties in the UK, 228 properties in the United Arab Emirates, and 9 properties in the United States and other countries, including houses and apartments, in the name of himself and his family members, by smuggling the illegally earned money abroad.
It is said that Saifuzzaman Chowdhury has acquired wealth inside Bangladesh with the illegally earned money in the light of the records. According to reliable sources, it is feared that accused Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his wife Rukmila Zaman may leave the country. Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his wife Rukmila Zaman’s foreign travel must be canceled for the sake of a fair investigation.
