MP Anna’s murder: Plea to withdraw the confessions of three accused

Own Correspondent: Three accused in the murder case of Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim, alias Anna, have applied for withdrawal of their confessional statements.

These three people are Jhenaidah District Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, alias Gas Babu, Shimul Bhuiya, alias Shihab, alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiya, alias Amanullah Saeed, and Tanveer Bhuiya.

On July 4, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Mahbubul Haque’s court held a hearing on the withdrawal of the accused’s statement. At this time, the accused were brought to court.

Some lawyers, including former public prosecutor of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Ehsanul Haque Samazi, heard on their behalf. After the hearing, the court ordered the petitions to be placed on record. At the same time, the accused applied for medical treatment due to torture on remand. Chikingsar directed the jail authorities as per the court’s jail rules.

Anwarul Azim’s daughter, Mumtarin Ferdous, filed this case at Sherebangla Nagar Police Station on the evening of May 12.

Seven people have been arrested in this case so far. Six of them have given a confessional statement in court. They are Shimul Bhuiya alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiya alias Amanullah Saeed, Tanveer Bhuiya, Shilasta Rahman, Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu Faisal Ali Sahazi, and Mostafizur Rahman. Jhenaidah District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu did not give a statement in court. He is in jail after remand.
