6 arrested in case of robbery of 85 lakhs of businessman in Keraniganj

Dhaka Bureau: Six robbers have been arrested in the incident of robbery of Tk 85 lakh from a businessman in Keraniganj under the identity of DB Police.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) officials said that the arrested had been committing such crimes by targeting financial institutions including banks and insurance companies. The six arrested are, Sohag Majhi, Md. Delwar, Md. Joynal Hossain, Md. Sohel, Md. Johnny and Md. Aziz.

Additional Commissioner of Police Haroon Or Rashid said in a press conference at the media center of DMP on Saturday (November 26) afternoon that four people directly involved in the robbery were arrested after conducting an operation in Kaundia area of ​​Savar police station on Friday (November 25). Later on their confession, one robber was arrested from Patuakhali Sadar area with 19 thousand taka and another robber was arrested with 1 lakh taka from Kajala area of ​​Jatrabari of Dhaka city along with the microbus used in robbery. The arrested were divided into different groups for robbery and stationed in front of financial and commercial institutions including DB Police, CID, various banks. Monitors the movement of financial transactions including traders. In quiet places where there are no CCTV cameras, the law enforcers take the opportunity to stop the movement of a person. As there is a case or warrant in his name, he took the money bag in the car.

The detective chief said that the robbers snatched money and valuables at their convenience and left them in deserted areas or on the side of the road and fled. Motorcycles are used to scout the scene before the robbery and microbuses are used to stop the target person’s movement and carry out the robbery. They use handcuffs, wireless and toy pistols for robbery.

To the question of the journalists, he further said that in order to be saved from fraudsters, it is necessary to properly verify whether they are actually DB or law enforcement personnel. DB police are now conducting raids wearing specific attire. There are also specific code numbers.

According to the DB Police, the arrested persons took Tk 85 lakh cash in a bag from his business establishment at Darigaon Bazar of Dakshin Keraniganj Police Station on November 13 at noon and left for South East Bank in Abdullahpur. On the way, 10 to 12 unidentified robbers stopped the movement of Keramat Ali in the identity of DB policemen, snatched the money and fled in microbus and motorcycle. Later, the victim filed a case in this incident.
