Dhaka Bureau: The anti-corruption commission has started an investigation against Matiur Rahman, an officer of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) who was involved in the goat scandal. A three-member committee has been constituted for the investigation.
Meanwhile, Matiur Rahman has been removed from his current post and attached to the Internal Resources Department (IRP) of the Ministry of Finance. This information was included in a notification issued by the internal resources department of the ministry on Sunday, June 23.
Earlier, Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali ordered strict action against Matiur Rahman. After that, he was removed from duty. Besides, Matiur Rahman is going to be removed from the board of directors of Sonali Bank. In the meantime, Sonali Bank authorities verbally informed Matiur Rahman of the matter. Sonali Bank CEO Afzal Karim confirmed this information.
Meanwhile, Matiur Rahman has not yet joined the workplace after the Eid holiday. He was not available at the VAT and Customs Appellate Tribunal in the morning. The employees said that Matiur Rahman did not join the workplace after the Eid holiday.
Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, the son of Matiur Rahman, recently bought a goat worth Tk 15 lakh from Sadiq Agro in Dhaka for Qurbani. However, in the beginning, Matiur Rahman denied Ifat as his son. In addition to buying goats, news has been published on social media and in the in the media that he has bought cows worth Tk 70 lakh from different farms in Dhaka.
Since then, Matiur Rahman’s son has expensive watches, cars, and a and a luxurious lifestyle. One after another, news has emerged about Matiur Rahman and his family members owning properties including resorts, shooting spots, bungalows, land, and so on.
In this regard, Matiur Rahman told the media, I have no son named Ifat. Not even relatives or acquaintances. My only son’s name is Taufiqur Rahman. A group is spreading misinformation against me. I am going to take legal action in this regard, seeking the help of the Cyber Crime Investigation Department of the Police. I am embarrassed by the use of my picture and name on social media. I will definitely take legal action.
However, Member of Parliament for Feni-2 Constituency Nizam Uddin Hazari said that Ifat is his cousin’s child. Matiur Rahman is his father.
