Dhaka Bureau: The ruling Awami League will hold a peace and development rally in the capital today. The general secretary of the party, Obaidul Quader, said that the rally will be held in front of Mohammadpur Arang on Saturday (May 11) at 3:30 p.m. The Bridges Minister made this announcement at a joint meeting of the parties at the Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday.
The general secretary of the Awami League said that many people say that we are holding a counter-rally; actually, we are not holding any rally. Today we are having a joint meeting here. On Saturday, we will hold a peace and development rally in the parliamentary constituency of Jahangir Kabir Nanak, a member of the presidium of our cabinet member party. I invite everyone to be there today.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Abu Yusuf of DMP gave a letter in this regard to Abdul Awal Sheikh, Deputy Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League.
DMP has given permission to the Awami League to hold a rally under 18 conditions. The conditions given to the Awami League are:
1. This permit is not permission to use the space; approval from the concerned authority is required for using the space.
2. The terms and conditions specified in the space usage permit must be duly observed.
3. All the activities of the peace and development rally should be restricted to the approved places.
4. An adequate number of volunteers (with visible ID cards) should be recruited under their own management for security.
5. Peace and development gathering place should have a firefighting system under its own management.
6. To prevent noise pollution, the use of microphones and devices should be limited; in no case should microphones or devices be used outside the approved area.
7. Projectors may not be installed outside of approved locations.
8. Mics and speakers cannot be used during Azan, Namaz, and other religiously sensitive times.
9. No caricature or speech that may hurt religious sentiments shall be displayed or propagated.
10. The stage shall not be used for any purpose other than the activities of the Peace and Development Assembly.
11. Under no circumstances should obstructions be created in the movement of vehicles on the main road.
12. Cars must be parked in designated parking areas; no cars can be parked on the main road.
13. No activity or speech against the state shall be allowed.
14. No provocative speech or distribution of leaflets shall be permitted.
15. Activities that disturb law and order and public safety shall not be carried out.
16. The organizing authority will be responsible for the breakdown of law and order and any untoward situation.
17. Failure to duly comply with the said conditions shall result in the immediate cancellation of this permission order.
18. The authority reserves the right to cancel this permission order without assigning any reason in the public interest.
