Dhaka Bureau: BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s request for permanent release and treatment abroad will be decided today (March 19), said Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque.
On March 6, Khaleda Zia’s younger brother, Shamim Iskandar, applied to the Ministry of Home Affairs for her permanent release. In addition, the application sought permission to take him abroad for treatment. The application was sent to the Law Ministry for its opinion.
In this regard, Anisul Haque said on Monday (March 18) that in the letter they are asking for Khaleda Zia’s permanent release as before. The decision will be made by Tuesday (March 19), inshallah.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia’s suspended sentence was extended eight times under these two conditions. The condition was that he would receive treatment at his residence in Dhaka, and during this time he would not be able to go outside the country.
Khaleda Zia’s sentence was suspended on September 24 last year, and the release period was extended by six months. That period will end on March 24. If extended this time, Khaleda Zia’s release period will increase for the ninth time.
Incidentally, Khaleda Zia is suffering from various physical complications, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney, liver, lung, and eye problems. Sometimes he has to be taken to the hospital if the illness worsens. On the night of March 13, he was taken to Evercare Hospital. The next day, he returned home.
Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, convicted in two cases, was initially imprisoned. By the government’s executive order, Khaleda Zia’s sentence has been suspended, and she is being allowed to stay at home.
