Dhaka Bureau: The first meeting of the investigation committee formed by the university administration regarding the suicide of Fairuz Avantika, a student of the law department of Jagannath University, is being held today (March 17).
The convener of the committee and the president of the University Teachers Association, Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, told the media that the first meeting will be held at noon on Sunday. I will consult with other members of the committee on how to submit a report in a timely manner.
In response to the question that the inquiry committee was asked to submit the report within a time frame, he said that no time had been given to them. However, the vice chancellor said to submit the report as soon as possible. I hope we can submit the report as soon as possible.
The remaining members of the five-member investigation committee are the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Masum Billah, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Abul Hossain, Music Chairman Jhumur Ahmed, and University Legal Officer Ranjan Kumar Das.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, the vice chancellor of the university, Dr. Sadeka Halim, assured the students that the inquiry committee would report within 7 working days. He also referred to the maximum punishment for the accused based on the proof of allegations in the investigation report as per the University Act.
Earlier, Avantika committed suicide at her home in the Bagichagaon Fire Service area of Comilla City around 10 p.m. on Friday. Earlier, he blamed two people for the death on his Facebook ID. They are classmate Raihan Siddiqui Amman and assistant proctor of the university, Deen Islam. The police have already arrested the classmate and assistant proctor.
