Dhaka Bureau: Syeda Salma Zafrin, the additional secretary of the same department, who was involved in allegations of harassment and misbehavior with the employees of the Cabinet department, has been transferred to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
An order in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday.
In the same order, the additional secretary of the electricity department. Nizam Uddin has been transferred to the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Tanya Khan, Additional Secretary attached to the Department of Power, to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.
Syeda Salma Zafrin, the new Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information, is serving as the Additional Secretary of the Cabinet and Reports Division.
Allegations of misconduct were made against this officer and Yasmin Begum, Joint Secretary of the Cabinet-Reports and Records Division, during his tenure. Unable to bear the harassment, the officers-employees welfare association of the cabinet department filed a written complaint against the two officials with the cabinet secretary on February 20 on behalf of the affected employees.
In the complaint signed by the general secretary of the association, Monirul Islam, it is said that due to the two officials, the work environment is becoming toxic for the concerned. Their unacceptable behavior is making employees physically and mentally ill.
Those two officers always behave harshly towards their subordinates. Even the slightest mistake could mean making life miserable for some in this section. For a long time, they have treated us in various unacceptable ways, but now their behavior is going beyond the limit every moment. As a result of their brutal behavior, we are passing our days in fear. It is also alleged that it has left us mentally disturbed day by day.
The two officials have been accused of abusing the subordinates in any way. Apart from this, the two secretaries referred to the family as the ‘descendants of small people’ among personal attacks and questioned the ethics and transparency of the officials involved in the recruitment process, who gave jobs to the cabinet department.
Apart from personal attacks, unnecessary detention after office hours and harassment have become daily occurrences, the complaint further said. Besides, there are some incidents where they attack us and harass us mentally.
