Dhaka Bureau: The panel of pro-government lawyers finally won the majority post in the Supreme Court Bar Association elections. Still, this election of the country’s Supreme Court Lawyers Association could not be free from controversy. Incidents of violence surrounding the counting of votes and the declaration of results have called the election into question. Because of this, not only the court arena but also the high command of the Awami League is said to be furious and extremely angry.

Those concerned say that the person behind the creation of this uncomfortable situation for the government is Nahid Sultana Juthi, a lawyer for the government. Who is the wife of Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash? In this election, he was a rebel candidate for the post of editor outside the pro-Awami panel. It was on his orders that the violence took place late that night. Some Jubo League leaders forcibly entered the center to declare him the winner. At least seven lawyers, including an assistant attorney general, were injured in the attack.

Not only that, the head of the election management committee was forced to declare Nahid Sultana Yuthi as the winner of the post of editor before counting the votes. Advocate Yuthi’s activities were allegedly instigated by pro-BNP-Jamaat candidates and their agents. The top leaders of the Awami League have played the role of a responsible leader’s wife.

According to party sources, the top leaders of the party are angry over the incident. And for this reason, law enforcement forces raided his house last Friday night to arrest Advocate Yuthi. But not finding him, four lawyers were arrested from his house. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, editor candidate of the pro-BNP panel, was also arrested and remanded for four days in this incident. The operation to nab the accused, who are still absconding in the same case, is continuing.

In this regard, Awami League presidium member Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin told the media that such an incident on the court premises was not intended.

Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim said such an incident should not have happened in a place like the High Court. The matter is now in the legal process. This should now be resolved through the legal process.

Awami League legal affairs secretary Najibullah Hiru said that the crime of those who obstructed this election is unforgivable. Expressing anger over the untoward incident on the court premises, he said, “I don’t want to mention any particular person as to who is responsible for what.”
