Dhaka Bureau: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Party Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury have been released from prison. They were released on bail after three and a half months.
They were released from Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday (February 15) at 4:15 p.m. Earlier, a huge crowd of BNP leaders and workers was seen at the jail gate to welcome them since noon.
On October 28, police clashed with BNP leaders and workers in Nayapaltan, the capital. The clash later spread to the Vijayanagar water tank and the Shantinagar area. At one point, around 3 p.m., BNP’s general meeting broke up.
A member of the police and a ward-level leader of the Jubo Dal were killed in the clash. 41 police officers and 25 members of the Ansar were injured. Besides, at least 20 journalists were injured.
After this incident, the Intelligence Department (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mirza Fakhrul from his home in Gulshan on October 28. After that, when he was produced in court in the case of attack and vandalism at the residence of the Chief Justice, the court rejected his bail application and ordered him to be sent to jail.
