Dhaka Bureau: The court has granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the party’s standing committee, in the case of Ramna police station on charges of attacking and vandalizing the residence of the Chief Justice during the clash with BNP on October 28 last year.
On Wednesday (February 14), Acting Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Quader of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court ordered this hearing.
With this, they got bail in all the cases related to BNP’s grand gathering on October 28. In that case, there is no obstacle to their release from prison, said the lawyer.
Incidentally, on October 28 last year, before the commencement of the BNP’s general meeting, tree branches were broken in front of the Chief Justice’s residence, and name plaques and gates were attacked with hand sticks. The accused kept throwing bricks inside. In this incident, a case was registered against 59 leaders of the BNP, including Mirza Fakhrul, at the Ramna police station.
Detective Police (DB) arrested Mirza Fakhrul from his home in Gulshan at around 9:30 a.m. on October 29. On November 2, DB police arrested Amir Khosru from his home in Gulshan at around 1:15 a.m. The next day, on November 3, the court granted his 6-day remand. He was sent to prison after remand on November 9. He has been in prison ever since.
