The Crime Desk: Chittagong’s controversial BNP leader and the expelled chairman of Gandamara Union Parishad of Banshkhali Upazila Leyaqat Ali (54) have been arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB).
He was arrested from a residential hotel in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan area around 6 p.m. on Wednesday (February 7).
Inspector (Investigation) Sudhanshu Shekhar Howladar of Banskhali police station confirmed this information on Thursday afternoon.
He said, ‘Based on secret information, the expelled UP chairman of Gandamara and the discussed BNP leader Ali were arrested in Dhaka on Wednesday evening by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
There are more than 21 cases against him for various crimes, including murder, extortion, attacks on police, banditry, intimidation, and anti-state activities. Arrest warrants are issued against him in many cases. He was on the run for a long time.
