Banskhali representative: In Banskhali, there was an incident of brick throwing between the supporters of two MP candidates. The incident took place in front of the Upazila Awami League office at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Two people were injured.
According to local eyewitness sources, Awami League-nominated candidate Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, MP, came out from inside the Upazila Awami League office at around 6 p.m. At the same time, when independent candidate Mujibur Rahman CIP’s supporters came from the north, both sides faced each other. Then the supporters of both sides started chanting loudly.
Upazila Awami League General Secretary Prof. Abdul Gafur and Municipal Mayor SM Tofail Hoshain tried to move the activists and supporters but failed. Both sides started kicking dust from both sides. At one point, brick-pelting started. At that time, the police quickly came to the scene. They scatter everyone. At that time, MP Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury stayed at the party office with the workers and supporters. On the other hand, supporters of Mujibur Rahman CIP stood on the third floor of Lakshmi Plaza in front of the Awami League office. Roni Dash (29), son of Nepal Dash of the Mahajan Para area, and Jaseem Uddin (32) of Abul Kasem of the Dakshin Jaldi area were injured in the brick pelting. They were taken to Banshkhali Hospital and treated.
The officer in charge (OC) of Banskhali police station spoke about the incident. Tofail Ahmed said that law and order in the area cannot be allowed to deteriorate under any circumstances. The administration will be forced to take a tough stand in the interest of the general public.
