Own Correspondent: Marzana Haque Varsha (7), a first class student of Jamalkhan Lichubagan area of the city, was brutally killed after being raped. Laxman Das, the killer, put Barsha’s body inside the TCB sealed plastic sack kept in the godown of the store, brought it out and threw it in the drain on the right side of the godown. Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Deputy Commissioner (South) Mostafizur Rahman gave this information at noon on Friday (28 October).
Police told The Crime that 7-year-old Marjana Haque Varsha was forced to rape by forcing her to hold her nose and mouth inside the godown of the grocery store for money. After seeing excessive bleeding after the rape, the rapist Laxman Das killed her by suffocation and dumped the body in a sack.
The arrested Laxman Das (30) is the son of Phelloram Das of Moni Mistry’s house, Ward No. 3, North Padua, Lohagara. He lived in the godown of a shop called Shyamal Store on the ground floor of AKM Jamal Uddin’s building in Jamalkhan area of the city. According to local sources, Laxman Das is the owner of the grocery store.
Deputy Police Commissioner Mostafizur Rahman told The Crime that Laxman Das used to give Barsha chips and chocolates from the shop at various times. Seeing excessive bleeding, Laxman killed him by suffocation and dumped the body in a sack. After some time, the rainy season clothes were put inside the sack of onion skins with the skins and the sack was thrown into the drain at the same place. After a while, Barsha also threw the used sandals into the drain.
He also said, when the sack was cut and taken out after the dead body was found in the drain, we noticed that the sack had TCB’s seal. Based on that formula, I kept looking for TCB sealed bags in stores selling goods in TCB sealed bags and in the godowns of various restaurants around. At one stage an empty sealed bag of TCB was found while checking the godown of Shyamal store. We collect various information about the owner of the shop and any employees who work there. CCTV footage of the surrounding area is also collected. I identified the accused Laxman Das on review of TCB’s sealed bags and CCTV camera footage. Later, Laxman Das, the accused involved in the brutal murder, was raided in the godown of the Shyamal store in Jamalkhan area.
Marzana Haque Varsha (7) is the daughter of Abdul Haque of Tamta area of Shahrasti police station of Chandpur district. She was a first class student of Kusumkumari Balika High School and lived with her family in a building adjacent to Jamalkhan Lichubagan Sikdar Hotel in the city.
Kotwali police station officer-in-charge (OC) Zahidul Kabir told The Crime that the arrested Laxman Dash will be sent to court. Last Monday (October 24), Marjana Haque Barsha left her home at around 4:30 pm and went to the shop at the mouth of the street to buy chips. As he did not return home even after 30 minutes passed, the family members searched the possible places. The next day Barsha’s sister Saleha Akhter reported missing to Ruby police station. On Thursday (October 27) afternoon, a man named Belal Hossain called the National Emergency Service 999 and reported the body to the police station. In the afternoon, the body of Barsha was recovered from the drain behind Sikdar Hotel in a bag by the police of Kotwali police station.
