Dhaka Bureau: BNP Vice Chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is retiring from politics. He said that the talk of forming a new team in the market is “not true”. He wants to retire from BNP. He said these things at a press conference at his residence in Banani, the capital, on Wednesday (November 8) at 11 o’clock.

Stating that I am not involved in any political activities at present, he said, “I am going to form another party. The information minister’s statement is not correct. I am physically ill. I have been treated at CMH and Singapore for the past few months. I will go to Singapore again. I have lost interest in politics due to a physical illness. I am far away from BNP politics. I have been doing BNP politics for 31 years. A lot of misunderstandings are being created. My leader is Begum Khaleda Zia.

He said that on December 14, 2020, a show cause notice was given by the party. There was no contact with Shaukat Mahmud at that time, not yet. But I am accused of these charges; I cannot accept this. I will present my statement at that time.

Stating that I did not do politics for office, he said, I have been the vice chairman of BNP for 23 years. All but two members of the Standing Committee were below me; now all have risen above. Khaleda Zia’s absence is facing various problems. He said that it is not possible to participate in the next election due to physical illness. I will inform you of the decision to retire from politics after discussing it with the people of the area.

He was elected Member of Parliament from Bhola-3 (Lalmohan-Tajumuddin) constituency on the nomination of the Jatiya Party in the third and fourth National Parliament elections of 1986 and 1988.

After that, he was elected as a Member of Parliament as an independent candidate from the same seat in the Fifth National Assembly Election of 1991 and joined the BNP in February 1996, Seventh in June 1996, and Eighth National Election in 2001.
