Dhaka Bureau: Police arrested BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie from his Dhanmondi residence in the capital.
He was arrested and taken to the police station late Tuesday night. BNP media cell chief Zahir Uddin Swapan confirmed the matter.
He told the morning paper at around 3:00 pm that Annie was kept in the custody of the Dhanmondi police station after her arrest.
Before this, the police raided the house of Shahid Uddin Annie, BNP’s publicity secretary and member secretary of the media cell, around 2:30 a.m. This former BNP MP alleged that they broke into the house.
Before being detained, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury told the media that the police were kicking the door. Threatening to break the door and shoot me if I don’t open the door. I am currently on bail in all cases, but they are still trying to take me away illegally.
Earlier, BNP media cell chief Zahir Uddin Swapan informed us that Annie’s house in Dhanmondi has been surrounded by police. The police ask him to go to the police station. Quoting former member of parliament Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury, Swapan also said that the police took a position around his house at 1.30 a.m.
Later, at 5:30 in the morning, Zahir Uddin Swapan said, I returned from the police station. I will move for bail if I give the challan to the Dhaka court on Wednesday. He said, sitting in the OC’s room, he talked with Annie; at that time, barrister Mahabub Uddin Khokon was also present.
