Dhaka Bureau: The pre-election observation delegation of the United States visiting Dhaka will meet with the Awami League and BNP on Monday to discuss the upcoming national elections.

It is known that the observer delegation will meet with the representatives of the Awami League at the Hotel Sheraton in Banani today at noon. On the other hand, a meeting with the party is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.

According to several sources, General Secretary Obaidul Quader will lead the delegation of the Awami League in the meeting with the US pre-election observer delegation. The BNP delegation will be led by the party’s general secretary, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Earlier, the Joint Pre-Election Assessment Mission (PEAM) of IRI and NDI arrived in Bangladesh last Saturday (October 7). The six-member mission will meet with Bangladeshi government officials, political party leaders, election authorities, civil society, and various electoral stakeholders until October 12 to monitor the election preparations and provide an independent and impartial assessment.

Sources said the delegation will conduct their assessment in accordance with the laws of Bangladesh and in line with the International Election Observation Protocol signed at the United Nations in 2005. At the end of the event, the delegation will publish a statement containing their key findings, an analysis of the pre-election environment, and practical recommendations to increase citizens’ confidence in elections.
