The Crime Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed to Bhutan to build an economic zone in Bangladesh for mutual benefit.
He made the proposal during a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Bilateral Meeting Room of the Claridge Hotel here on Saturday with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan. Earlier, the Prime Minister and his younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, welcomed the King and Queen of Bhutan on their arrival at the hotel.
After the meeting on Saturday (local time), in a press briefing, the Foreign Minister quoted the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. AK Abdul Momen said, ‘We are establishing an economic zone in Bangladesh. You can build an economic zone in our country like Bhutan’s economic zone. The Prime Minister said that they have already allowed India, Japan, and South Korea to build an economic zone in Bangladesh.
He said, “If you want, we can provide an economic zone in Karigram. Sheikh Hasina made this proposal to the King of Bhutan after he said he wanted to build an administrative economic zone in his country while keeping the environment intact.
The foreign minister of Bangladesh said that Bhutan, a happy country, does not want to endanger the environment of their country.
The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh is developing all kinds of communication with neighboring countries, including railways.
He said Bangladesh is a hub of connectivity. Bhutan can use Bangladesh’s two ports and Syedpur International Airport. Because we have made them open for this purpose.
Bhuiyan praised Bangladesh’s economic progress under the dynamic leadership of King and Queen Sheikh Hasina of Bhutan.
King Jigme Khesar Namgel Wangchuck of Bhutan expressed his desire to have direct transit with Bangladesh through India.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh welcomed Bhutan’s interest and said, if necessary, we would talk to India about the matter.
The King of Bhutan said that both the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of his country have studied in Bangladesh, so they have a special affection for Bangladesh.
He said that both the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bhutan want to visit Bangladesh privately.

The foreign minister said that during the 50-minute meeting, they also discussed various family matters and expressed their sincerity towards the King and Queen of Bhutan as their aunts.
Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Advisor Salman Fazlur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Tofazzel Hossain Mia, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen, Prime Minister’s Speech Writer M Nazrul Islam, and High Commissioner of Bangladesh in the UK Saida Muna Tasneem were present at the briefing.
