Khagrachari correspondent: 1 (one) UPDF member arrested with weapons in Mahalchari upazila of Khagrachari hill district. A member of the UPDF was arrested by the army from Sindukchari in the district on Tuesday (02 May). He has been sent to Khagrachari Jail on Wednesday (03 May) morning.
Arrested UPDF core (post) member is Dharma Moni Chakma (Nakke), age 35, father’s name is Mohani Mohan Chakma, Village East Datkupya, Kayanghat UP, Mahalachari.
According to eyewitness sources, Dharma Moni Chakma was waiting for a car on the road to return to Mahalachari from Sindukchari at 12 noon on Tuesday (02 May). At that time, two army men wearing white clothes came from Dhumnighat army camp and arrested him. Local eyewitnesses said that there was a newly masked miscreant with the army personnel at that time. Later, a group of army personnel from Mahalchari zone went and took him away.
After being detained, he was taken to the army camp and after being physically tortured, he was taken to the Mahalchari Senazone. From there later in the afternoon, he was handed over to Mahalchari police station and a weapons case was registered against him, the victim’s family said.
According to army sources, 1 person of the UPDF main (provisional) team was arrested along with weapons in the operation of Mahalchari army zone of Khagrachari region. On May 2 (Tuesday) in Pankhimura area of Sindukchari under Mahalchari army zone, an army patrol team arrested a terrorist named Dhanmani Chakma alias New Chakma (30) with weapons on the basis of secret information.
A LMG, subscription receipt, 2 rounds of ammunition, mobile and cash were recovered from him. Later, the arrested Dhanmani Chakma was handed over to Mahalchari police.
Mahalchari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abul Hasan Khan said that one UPDF member was arrested by Sindukchari army. After being handed over to the police station, a case was registered against the terrorist Dhanmani Chakma and the accused was sent to jail by the learned court.
