At least hundreds of people are reported missing from different parts of the country. law enforcement forces claim—these people become fanatics and leave home hoping for heaven. Many of them have returned, and many others cannot be traced.
According to the information given by RAB, 59 people, including leaders of various levels, are staying in the hills, and 17 leaders and members of the hill separatist organization Kuki Nationalist Front (KNF) have been arrested and brought under the law for assisting the militants in training and other activities. However, those who are still missing are worrying the members of the law enforcement agencies.
According to the data provided by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, 5 thousand 937 GDs of missing persons have been registered in DMP police stations from January 2022 to January 2023. The highest number of GDs has occurred in the Mirpur division of DMP. In eight police stations in this division, 1,444 people have gone missing in one year. The Ramana category has the fewest gaps.In six police stations in this division, 256 people went missing in one year. Usually, if they do not find anyone, the relatives file a complaint at the police station. In addition, if someone’s housekeeper, driver, or security personnel suddenly disappear, GD occurs when someone leaves an orphanage or an institution without telling them, when a woman or a man suddenly disappears due to love or any other reason, when mentally challenged people and children go missing, and when someone is kidnapped. According to the DMP, there are 10–15 such reasons for missing-related GD. However, people who suddenly disappear after leaving their homes are involved in general militancy. In this case, they leave their used mobile phones at home. That’s when their issue is given more importance.
The director of the Law and Media Branch of the RAB, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, said that a total of 59 people, including leaders of various levels of the new militant organization Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and the mountain separatist organization ‘KNF’, were killed in the operations of the RAB at different times. 17 leaders and members have been arrested and brought under the law. Important video content related to the organization was also recovered. According to information obtained from those arrested at various times, Amir Anisur Rahman alias Mahmud of this organization, Maimun, the head of Dawati activities, Shamim Mahfuz, the organization’s adviser, Rakib, the head of the finance and media wing, and Muntashir, the chief coordinator of financial affairs, Dawati and one of the financial suppliers, Habibullah, have all been arrested.Amir Anisur Rahman alias Mahmud of the organization developed a good relationship with KNF chief Nathambom. Later they entered into an agreement with the Nathambams in return for money, after which they would provide shelter in the hills, supplies of arms, and armed training.
He said that the militants do not have the capacity to cause large-scale destruction. All their networks have been dismantled. However, 15 to 20 people are still missing. It is being investigated whether they actually left the house and for what purpose. It is hoped that they will be arrested soon.
