Dhaka Bureau: BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists are involved in the violence surrounding the annual jalsa of the Ahmadiyya (Qadiani) community in Panchagarh. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal commented that a BNP leader arrested in this incident has confessed.
He said these things in response to questions from journalists in his office after a meeting on law and order at the secretariat on Monday (March 6). This law and order meeting was held with the aim of properly observing Genocide Day on March 25, the Great Independence Day, and National Day the next day.
The Home Minister said Jamaat activists and BNP leaders got involved and prevented the Ahmadiyya community from conducting the event (the annual jalsa). At one stage, they set fire to their house. A fire was also set where the ceremony was taking place. A member of the Ahmadiyya community died in this incident. A camp leader who had gone there was also injured in the incident. Died later.’
He also said, “There have been seven cases in this incident. So far, 81 people have been arrested. BNP leader Fazle Rabbi is among those arrested. He confessed; they had come to stop the ceremony. He was behind the incident.
