Government will buy LNG from Japan for 690 crore taka

Dhaka Bureau: The government has decided to import a cargo of 33 lakh 60 thousand MMBTU of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Japan. It will cost 690 crore, 42 lakh, 9 thousand, and 312 taka. This LNG will be imported through Petrobangla under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources. The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the import of this LNG from Japan.

The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement was held on Wednesday (February 15) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

After the meeting, the decision of the meeting was announced by the Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Syed Mahbub Khan. He said that in today’s meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement, the import of a cargo of LNG from Japan’s Jera Company had been approved. This LNG will be imported through Petrobangla under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources.

He also said that the LNG will be imported by collecting quotations from companies that have signed the Master Sale and Purchase Agreement, or MSPA. This LNG import has been approved at a cost of 690 crore, 42 lakh, 9 thousand, and 312 taka from the Jera Company of Japan. The import cost per MMBTU of LNG will be $16.50.

Incidentally, in the cabinet committee meeting on government procurement held on February 1, approval was given to import one cargo of LNG from the spot market. The decision to import LNG is made by collecting quotations from companies that have signed the Master Sale and Purchase Agreement (MSPA).
