Dhaka Bureau: Dhaka tops the list of air pollution cities today. Around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dhaka’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is 230.This situation is very unhealthy in terms of air quality.

At the same time today, the Indian city of Mumbai (199) is next to Dhaka in this list. Switzerland-based air quality monitoring technology company IQ Air publishes this list of cities with polluted air.

An AQI score based on daily air quality gives people information about how clean or polluted the air in a particular city is and whether or not they may be at any health risk.

At 9:30 a.m. today, the Chinese city of Chengdu was ranked third in terms of air pollution (197). Pakistan’s Lahore (190) ranks fourth with a score of 185. India’s Delhi is in fifth place with a score of 182. It is followed by China’s Wuhan (181) and Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar (176).

Experts say that if the amount of particulate matter (ppm) of 2.5 micrometers in diameter per cubic meter is between zero and 50, then that air can be called “good” on the Air Quality Index (AQI). If this level is 51–100, the air is considered to be of “moderate” quality, and if it is 101–150, it is considered to be in the “danger range.” And if the air is 151-200 ppm, it is called “unhealthy,” if it is 201-300 ppm, it is “very unhealthy,” and if it is 301-500 ppm, it is “hazardous.”
