Dhaka Bureau: Mistakes are coming out one after another in the textbooks. Teachers, students and parents are worried about textbooks being printed with wrong and inconsistent information. Those concerned think that there was carelessness in the preparation of the book. The author-editors were careless in writing and editing the book. And there was a lack of oversight by concerned officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). As a result, book authors, editors and related officials cannot avoid the responsibility. However, an official of NCTB said that the main responsibility of the book’s mistakes lies with the author and editor. Those whose books are found to have major errors will no longer be included in the list of NCTB authors. If necessary, they will be asked to apologize for these mistakes.
It is known that a big mistake has been caught on page 181 of the ‘Bangladesh History and World Civilization’ book of class 9 and 10 published this year. It is being said here that from March 26 to December 16, 1971, the Pakistani invading forces indulged in torture, genocide and destruction throughout Bangladesh. But it will be here from March 25, 1971. It is written on page 200 of that book – Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took oath as Prime Minister from Chief Justice Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem on January 12. But Bangabandhu was administered the oath by the then President Justice Abu Saeed Chowdhury. Apart from this, on page 202 of the book, a lot of information on constitution making and background has been omitted.
In class 9 book ‘Bangladesh and World Introduction’ page 16 – Dhaka Rajarbagh Police ‘Camp’ and Pilkhana EPR ‘Camp’ are printed. But Dhaka’s Rajarbagh Police Lines and Pilkhana EPR headquarters will be here. It is written on page 6 of the same book that the United Front was formed with four parties in the 1954 elections. But the real facts are that the United Front was formed with five parties in the 1954 elections. On page 28 of the same book, it is said that the main feature of the Constitution is to preserve the fundamental rights of the common man. But the real facts are that the fundamental human rights of the common people are the main features of this constitution.
On page 57 of Class IX ‘Purinicity and Citizenship’ book, paragraph 1 of Powers and Functions of the President has also omitted factual information. Page 59 of the same book has also highlighted inconsistent information about the powers and functions of the Prime Minister.
A portion of the 7th grade science ‘Inquiry Lesson’ book has been adapted from the National Geographic Educational site and used in exact translation. Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Professor Hasina Khan, who are associated with the writing and editing of the book, have admitted that this allegation is true. In a joint statement yesterday, they also accepted the responsibility.
According to the complaint, some chapters of this book were taken from the National Geographic educational site and used in exact translation. Comparing this particular part of the book and the same text on the website, the allegation appears to us to be true. However, he mentioned in the statement that these two people did not write this text. The statement was said to have been written by someone else on their team.
Teachers say mid-January is underway. Many books have not yet been received by students and teachers. As time goes on, many more mistakes will come out in the book. Taking responsibility for these mistakes should not only be corrected, the author concerned should be blacklisted and banned from NCTB for life.
