Dhaka Bureau: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has written to the sub-registry offices of various districts, including Dhaka, seeking information on the assets of the official Motiur couple of the official Motiur couple of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), who were discussed in the goat scandal. These letters were given on Sunday (June 30).

Earlier, following the appeal of the ACC, the court banned Matiur Rahman, his wife Laila Kaniz, and his son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab from traveling abroad.

Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, the son of Matiur Rahman, started a discussion when he bought a goat worth Tk 15 lakh from Dhaka’s Sadiq Agro during last Eid al-Adha. However, in the beginning, Matiur Rahman denied Ifat as his son.

In this regard, Matiur Rahman told the media, “I do not have a son named Ifat.” Not even relatives or acquaintances. My only son’s name is Taufiqur Rahman. A group is spreading misinformation against me. I am embarrassed by the use of my picture and name on social media. I will definitely take legal action.’

After these incidents came to light, Matiur Rahman was removed from the post of President of the Customs, Excise, and VAT Appellate Tribunal and attached to the Internal Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance. At the same time, he was also removed from the directorship of Sonali Bank.

Earlier on Monday (June 24), Matiur Rahman, his wife, college teacher Laila Kaniz, and son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman banned Arnab from traveling abroad. Matiur Rahman’s wife is currently the Chairman of Raipura Upazila Parishad of Narsingdi and the Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary of the District Awami League, as is his second wife, Shammi Akhtar Shivli. He lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Matiur Rahman obtained an honors degree in finance from Dhaka University and first rank in first class in Masters from the same university. In addition, he obtained a PhD degree from Preston University in the United States. He has received training in VAT and customs from home and abroad.
