8 kg of gold recovered in Shahjalal, one detained

Dhaka Bureau: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has detained a passenger with gold worth Tk 6.5 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. A special team of customs detectives seized gold bars and ornaments weighing 8 kg (217 grams) from the Emirates Airways passenger from Dubai.

On Wednesday (December 20), Assistant Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Farhana Begum confirmed this information to the media.

According to customs intelligence sources, a passenger named Rekha Parveen was searched on Tuesday night, and a gold bar wrapped in a black cloth was found inside her white handbag. The seized gold is opened on the Green Channel inventory table in the presence of various agencies.


By counting 69 gold bars, one gold chain is obtained. After searching the passenger’s body, six more gold bangles were found.

The recovered gold bars have been deposited in the Dhaka Custom House warehouse.
