Dhaka Bureau: Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has commented that there is a possibility of sanctions if the elections are held. He said that the environment for going to the elections has not yet been created. If there is an election, there is a possibility of sanctions.
He said this at the Jatiya Party Central Executive Committee meeting at the Diploma Engineers Institute auditorium in Kakrail, the capital, on Tuesday (November 14).
GM Quader says you have given me the responsibility to take the decision. I have to think about many things. What if we go to the polls in this situation and then the government is in trouble? If there is no fair election in the country and if the government does not engage in dialogue, sanctions may come on us during the election. If there is no dialogue, the government will surely face major sanctions.
He said the letter from the United States has come to us. This letter is very important. This is the official letter of the United States. They want dialogue. We have also been talking about dialogue. We don’t want to be the face of any other party. We are now much stronger as a team.
Referring to the statement of Peter Haas, the JAPA chairman said, “Now it is understood that until now Peter Haas has not given any statement of his own; it is the commentary of the American government.” The US has now told the official government, the opposition, and even the BNP that they want dialogue.
