The Crime Desk: US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that although the United States is active in ensuring that the elections in Bangladesh are fair and free, the country does not support any particular party here.

Spokesperson Matthew Miller said these things in response to reporters’ questions at a regular press conference on Monday (October 2) local time.

The press conference also discussed the upcoming elections in Bangladesh and the announcement of visa restrictions on media workers. The details of the briefing have been presented on the website of the US State Department.

Matthew Miller said the United States supports the desire of the people of Bangladesh to freely elect their leaders. The United States only wants to ensure that the people of Bangladesh can freely choose their leaders.

He said, I will just say that the United States does not support any particular party and does not want to influence the outcome of the election. The United States only wants to ensure that the people of Bangladesh can freely choose their leaders.

In response to a question about the visa policy, the US official said that the United States wants what the Bangladeshis themselves want. And that is: free and fair elections that will be held peacefully. Bangladesh’s government, political parties, civil society, and the media have all expressed their desire that the upcoming national elections be free, fair, and peaceful—just as we want them to be.
