International Desk: There were allegations of financial transactions behind the US ban on elite-force RAB from the beginning. This time, the truth of this has started to be found through specific allegations against a US senator. US Senator Bob Menendez and his wife, Nadine, have been charged with bribery. It was Menendez who urged the US administration to ban Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The country’s attorney’s office in Manhattan said on Friday (September 22) that there was evidence that Menendez had provided sensitive information to the Egyptian government. Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported in a report that an indictment has also been published from the country’s attorney’s office in Manhattan. It is said that Senator Bob Menendez and his wife, Nadine, took hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes to maintain good relations with three New Jersey businessmen.
In addition to receiving direct dollars, the Menendez couple received gold, home loans, job opportunities, expensive cars, and many other things. Federal prosecutors recovered large amounts of gold bars and hundreds of millions of dollars in cash from the senator’s residence. The price of this gold is 2 lakh dollars. Menendez and his wife are facing three criminal charges. These are bribery conspiracies, service fraud conspiracies, and extortion conspiracies in the name of government rights.
However, Menendez claimed that these allegations were false. He said, These are conspiratorial campaigns against me. Menendez is a Democrat on the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Three years ago, he and several colleagues urged the then-Trump administration to impose sanctions against Bangladesh’s RAB. Since then, Menendez has been known in Bangladesh. Menendez called on the then-Trump administration to impose sanctions on some senior officers of RAB in 2020, accusing them of extrajudicial killings.
